Aquifer Protection Action! On 27 October 2017, the Northland Regional Council (NRC) gave “limited” notification of a resource consent application by 17 parties for new groundwater takes from the Aupouri Aquifer in the far north of the north island of Aotearoa, New Zealand.
A group of affected community members and tangata whenua (Māori people affiliated to the affected territory and aquifer natural resource) joined together and drafted a template intervention (commonly known as “submission”) made up of two Parts (Part 1, and Part 2) to NRC opposing the application. Part 1 of that intervention template outlines our procedural concerns. Part 2 is on substantive issues. Interventions are due 24 November 2017. We encourage all affected persons and groups to support this water protection campaign - either sign the template and send in to NRC (see 'how to' instructions here), or otherwise actively help to raise awareness and mobilize citizen action.
